Messerschmitt

Back

There was a legend that a crashed Messerschmitt lay near Hel. Legend also said that someone had already found it. Despite many attempts, we had not been able to locate this wreck for years. Fortune smiled upon us unexpectedly during recreational dives with the Santi Scholars when we decided to check "something" our sonar had detected. This "something" turned out to be our long-sought plane.

We still don't know the model or when it was shot down. Perhaps in the defense of Hel in 1939, which would be a fascinating story, or maybe it fell into the sea during exercises or the battles for Hel in 1945. This is what's wonderful about wreck diving – discovering history long after the dive.

We promise to tell you more during the Baltictech Conference 2024 in November.

We will also try to add it to the list of publicly accessible wrecks because it lies very close to the peninsula and is definitely worth visiting.
